The use of drones in Universities Programs is growing rapidly

The use of drones in University programs is increasing exponentially.

The use of drones in Universities covers a wide range of purposes. For research, education, operational activities, it’s all in use in University programs. University programs use it for example for aerial filming and inspection work, marketing studies (aerial photography), surveys (building roofs, tall chimneys) – and research activities (including land and water surveys in Geography projects).

Workforce

Drones are now a significant segment of the aviation industry. UAV’s represent new and growing opportunities in the civilian, government, and military job markets.

Universities need to prepare their students for the workforce focusing on developing a curriculum that is responsive to the industry’s and employers’ needs. They have to understand the importance of providing students with research opportunities, cutting-edge technology and equipment, and an exclusive education.

Given that drone applications and regulations are changing so fast, it is essential for educators to partner with employers and industry in order to ensure that academicals and university programs have the necessary knowledge and current skill set to not only enter, but also to advance this rapidly growing industry.

Programs

To become a proficient, responsible and highly sought after drone pilot, flight training cannot occur online or come solely from a textbook. Many universities have created specific departments or specialization for drone technology to make it easy for interested students to find the program and its courses.

There are currently two main ways drones are being integrated into higher learning institutions:

  1. Specific programs or departments that have determined they can benefit from the technology working to establish integration. Drone-specific departments can also collaborate with other departments (e.g. agriculture, public safety) to create courses that can be cross-listed between the drone-specific department and those other departments.
  2. Additional specialization in an otherwise traditional aviation program/department.

The program has to log flight hours by piloting a diverse fleet of unmanned aircraft through our structured multirotor and fixed-wing training courses.

Training And Competence

These tools clearly have enormous potential, but there are a number of regulatory, safety and privacy issues that must be addressed before staff or students construct and/or operate them, or engage a third party to do so.

Individuals must be competent to fly drones. Competence is based upon training and this ensures that individuals possess the relevant skills and knowledge to fly the drone safely and deal with any unexpected and abnormal occurrence. A training needs’ analysis will help to decide the type and level of training required. Individuals may fly drones under the supervision of an experienced pilot.

Education Campaign

UAV Systems International is committed with education and is interested in investing in the development of talents in the drone industry, that’s the reason why we put forward discounts for university programs and students worldwide so they can succeed in their objectives.

Our platforms are based on the Pixhawk flight controller, made in the USA, and can be extensively customized by us to meet the end users needs. We also have a number of surveillance, mapping, seed spreader, and crop spraying drones.
