10 MUST HAVE DRONE TRAVEL ACCESSORIES

10 Must Have Drone Travel Accessories

10 Must Have Drone Travel Accessories

We have listened to what our customers have told us and come up with a list of 10 must-have drone travel accessories, from most to least important. There is nothing worse than having your drone grounded for the rest of your travel only two days after arriving because you were not properly prepared. By preparing carefully beforehand, you can be sure you will not have your drone grounded during your travels, and you will be able to capture as much aerial photography and video as possible.

1. Drone Travel Bag

A drone travel bag is a must and is number one on our list of must-have drone travel accessories. Travel involves bags being thrown around, sometimes having things set on top of them and often involves cramming more and more into your existing bags as your trip progresses and your shopping does too. A drone travel bag will ensure that your drone is protected at all times, and will not suffer broken arms, broken propellers, or a damaged camera from bad handling. There are two types of drone travel bags, “soft bags” and “hard shell bags”. Hard shell bags are best if you plan to be traveling extensively and moving around many locations. These bags can take a massive beating, and also benefit from being waterproof. A soft bag is best if you will be taking the drone to a hotel for example, and do not plan to travel too far, or too extensively with it. A list of our recommended soft and hard shell backpacks for the most popular drones is listed below,

2. Extra Batteries

Extra batteries are number two of our must-have drone travel accessories. Batteries do not last long, and tend to have long charge times. If you are on the road for extended periods of time, or just want to get ample drone footage of your vacation one battery will not be enough. There is nothing worse than being on a day trip and seeing a spectacular scene to capture with your drone, only to realize that the only battery you have ran out in the morning. A list of batteries for our most popular drones with links to purchase them is included below,

3. Extra Propellers

Extra propellers are number three of our must-have drone travel accessories. We have lost track of the number of times customers have contacted us and asked us to ship them a new set of propellers via priority shipping to their travel location. Propellers break from time to time from something as simple as a bad landing to skimming a tree on takeoff. There are very few places in the world, particularly in less developed locations that will have a store nearby selling DJI drone parts. By bringing several extra pairs of propellers with you, you will ensure that you will not have your drone grounded for several days while you await new propellers being sent in. A list of propellers for our most popular drones with links to purchase them is included below,

4. Memory Cards

Memory cards are number four of our must-have drone travel accessories. Video, particularly high definition video will fill up a memory card in no time, and traveling is usually not short of places you want to capture in high definition video with your drone. You will usually be able to purchase a new memory card if needed in most places around the world, however, they tend to be more expensive around tourist areas and you will waste time during your vacation going out to look for one. A list of memory cards for our most popular drones with links to purchase them is included below,

If you do not mind spending a bit more money, you can purchase the DJI Hard Drive which allows you to upload up to 60 hours of flight onto one drive without the need for multiple SD cards.

5. Controller Hood

Controller hoods are number five on our list of must-have drone travel accessories and an underrated travel accessory. There is nothing worse than flying around an unfamiliar area with the sun beaming down, only to realize you cannot read the screen of the controller, or your phone because of the glare. A controller hood blocks the sun and ensures you will be able to read the screen at all times. A list of controller hoods for our most popular drones with links to purchase them is included below,

6. Car Charger/Travel Adaptor

Car chargers and travel adaptors are number six on our list of must-have drone travel accessories. If you plan to go on long road trips, particularly into less developed areas where there may be little access to electricity then this is a must-have accessory. A car charger will allow you to charge the drone batteries as you drive, allowing you to carry fewer batteries. Travel adaptors, on the other hand, are a must-have accessory if you will be traveling to a part of the world that uses a different electrical socket system. Without one of these, you will not be able to plug any of your electronics into the wall to charge them. You can check the following list to see which countries use each type of electrical socket, Power Socket Types By Country. A list of car chargers for our most popular drones with links to purchase them along with travel adaptors by type is included below,

7. Power Bank/Charging Hub

Power banks come in at number seven on our list of must-have drone travel accessories. A power bank is a good idea to bring with you if you will be traveling in more remote areas and off the electrical grid for extended periods of time. Not only this, but many older hotel rooms in less developed parts of the world will only have one electrical plug per room. If you need this power outlet to charge your phone, you can forget about charging your drone batteries, in which case a power bank can be a useful drone travel accessory to bring with you. A charging hub can also save the day in this situation, allowing you to charge multiple batteries at once using one power outlet. A list of power banks and charging hubs for our most popular drone models with links to purchase them is included below,

8. Lipo Battery Bag

Lipo battery bags are number eight on our list of must-have drone travel accessories. Lipo battery bags are an absolute must if you will be traveling on an airplane, as without them the airline could seize the batteries you are carrying. In recent years due to issues of lithium batteries spontaneously catching fire, airlines have cracked down on the transport of them. They are now considered dangerous goods, and as a result, packing them properly is imperative if you do not want to run into issues when bringing them on the plane. A lipo battery bag is sealed and ensures that if the battery does catch fire, it will not spread outside of the bag.

9. Repair Kit

Repair kits are number nine on our list of must-have drone travel accessories, and frankly, they are a must-have drone accessory, even when not traveling. A repair kit will allow you to make quick fixes on the go, and not only that but when not traveling it will allow you to make drone repairs yourself without the need to send your drone into a costly repair shop. The screws on most drones are a unique type, and these repair kits give you the screwdrivers and equipment to remove these screws. A list of repair kits for our most popular drone models with links to purchase them is included below,

10. An extra Drone. Really?

An extra drone makes number ten on our list of must-have drone travel accessories. It may seem bizarre to bring a second drone with you, but we have lost count of the number of times reporters, or photographers doing work in remote islands, and less developed countries have lost their drone, had it crash in the ocean, or damaged it beyond repair and asked us to send them a replacement via priority shipping. Doing this is expensive, and also wastes time as you need to deal with the customs in the country which you are visiting which can be very slow and may not speak your language. Obviously, if you have a DJI Inspire or similar drone it does not make sense to carry another one around everywhere you travel. It does, however, make sense to carry a drone like the DJI Spark around with you. This drone is cheap, small enough to easily fit in a backpack, can capture great quality footage, and will allow you to relax a bit more if your primary drone gets lost or damaged beyond repair during your travels.
