DJI INSPIRE 1 VS DJI INSPIRE 2 COMPARISON

What Does DJI Mean?

DJI Inspire 1 vs DJI Inspire 2 Comparison

The DJI Inspire 1 is now 2 years old, and with the recent announcement of the DJI Inspire 2 we wanted to highlight the differences between the 2 models. The Inspire 2 features a variety of improvements including:

IMPROVEMENTS

Price

Price is obviously one of the biggest, with $1,999 USD for the DJI Inspire 1 vs DJI Inspire 2 at a much higher $3,300 USD.

Longer Battery Life

The DJI Inspire 2 has a much longer battery life compared to the original DJI Inspire 1, due to its capacity to carry two fully charged batteries at the same time. The Inspire 1 by comparison had a battery life of only 18 minutes, shorter than both the DJI Phantom 4 and DJI Mavic despite being over twice the price.

Color

The color of the body is a sleek space black in the latest DJI Inspire 2 compared to the DJI Inspire 1’s shiny white body. This matt black option is best for shooting higher end productions since the shiny surface does not reflect sunlight onto the set being filmed.

Faster

The DJI Inspire 1 flew up to 49mph compared to 65mph that the DJI Inspire 2 can achieve. When launched the speed of the DJI Inspire 1 was quite impressive compared to the competition, however recently drones such as the Phantom 4 and Mavic have been able to achieve similar speeds while costing a fraction of the price.

Obstacle Avoidance System

It is hard to believe the DJI Inspire 1 has no obstacle avoidance system when the last 2 iterations of DJI’s general consumer drones, the Phantom 4, and Mavic Pro, both have this feature. Obstacle avoidance ensures that the drone does not crash into obstacles such as people, buildings, or tree branches while flying. The DJI Inspire 2 however takes the obstacle avoidance system to a whole new level. The DJI Inspire 2 features 360 degree obstacle avoidance compared to DJI’s other drones which only have forward facing obstacle avoidance. This means no matter where you are flying whether it be forwards, backwards, or sideways, you can have peace of mind knowing the drone has obstacle detection all around.

DJI Goggles

One more thing the DJI Inspire 1 vs the DJI Inspire 2 is missing is the availability of the DJI Goggles. The DJI Goggles are similar to VR Goggles, that when worn give the impression of first person view, meaning you feel like you are sitting inside the drone flying it, as opposed to flying it in third person.

Conclusion

The DJI Inspire 1 had lost a lot of its luster recently following the launch of the DJI Phantom 4, and DJI Mavic, both drones that had better features than the DJI Inspire and a lower price tag. The launch of the DJI Inspire 2 changes the equation, placing the DJI Inspire 2 back at the top and creating a compelling reason to buy it over DJI’s other offerings.
